Une création unique

The « Ombrelle », a bridge between heritage & modernity.

The most visited country in the world, France attracts around 83 million tourists every year, from all parts of the world. The French « art de vivre » has been charming the world for centuries.

France is a preferred destination for Asian tourists, whose numbers continue to increase by the year. It is very frequent to see these Asian travellers holding an umbrella to protect their skin from the sun during the summer.

This increasingly common image is used by numerous media to underline a particularly hot summer. The sun is « on » and the parasol appears to be the new symbol of summer !

When the sun is shining on all parts of our country, couldn’t we do better than just offer a basic umbrella ? Have we forgotten that we are renowned for our elegance and attention to details ?

The Umbrella is not made for the sun ! The « ombrelle » comes out of the shade, imposes its charm, its style and reconnects us with our heritage.

The « Ombr’elle », at the heart of a brand strategy

In an environment where the seduction of our customer is key,
the « Ombr’elle » will bring an authentic experience of the French « art de vivre ».

  • Each guest will feel unique and privileged.

Some history

It is difficult to date the invention of the parasol and confirm where it originated.

What we do know for sure is that the parasol appears in numerous cultures and civilizations. Egyptian caliphate, Western kings and princes, Moroccan sultans, Doges of Venice, Roman popes …  they all used them!

In numerous Asian religions, the sky is symbolized by a parasol – with the canopy representing the heavenly vault.  In Tibetan Buddhism, a parasol offers protection from suffering which is amongst the eight auspicious signs (the eight symbols of luck).

In first century Rome, parasols were used at the theatre, to protect the audience from the sun.  During chariot races, parasols wore the colors of the favorites.  The beginnings of advertising!

A spiritual, royal or divine symbol from East to West – the parasol is universal.

Fashion: from « Parisiennes » to « Elegants ».

Catherine de Medicis brought parasols and fans with here when she arrived in France for her wedding in 1533,   in 1712, Anne of Bavaria held parasol at all times, thus starting the so-called “Parisienne” fashion.

In the 19th century, the parasol became an indispensable fashion accessory for the « Elegants ».  It was a flattering object that rarely went out of fashion.  Their undeniable charm explains why they often figured in paintings at that time.
